Tour the Southwest through the Paintings of Michael Baum.

Morning in the Rockies

     Morning  in the Rockies

Our tour begins in Colorado, where Baum lives. Here in a scene from Rocky Mountain National Park, we feel the freshness of the new day.

The Next Bend places us in Horseshoe Canyon, Utah. As always Baum makes us wonder what is around the bend.

Southeastern Utah opens into wonderous mesas made of colorful rock with blue-violet mountains in the background.

Morning Highlights

Castle Valley

It is easy to see why this area of Utah is called Castle Valley. This rock citadel commands the flat landscape, yet lets the clouds dominate the sky.

       Morning      Highlights

Following the Colorado River again, we move on to Arizona. The river flows along peacefully, providing spaces of greenery at the base of the cliffs.

Glen Canyon Study

Light and shadow on the canyon walls create ever-changing abstract designs to delight the eye, as the river flows on through Arizona.

Light on a Canyon Wall

The artist explores the added dimensions produced by the light as the sun moves across the canyon. The deep purple shadows add a bit of mystery.

When it comes to colorful landscape, it is hard to beat New Mexico.  Here Baum captures the layered colors of the rock and balances the scene with an enormous white cloud.

Afternoon Brilliance

Fall River

With Fall River, we are once again in Colorado in the high mountains, the 14ers, called so because so many are over 14,000 feet.
